Rava/Suji Upma

Ingredients :

  • 100 gm Suji
  • 2 tablespoon oil or pure ghee
  • 1 onion
  • 9-10 Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 50 gm peanuts
  • 1 small spoon Rai seeds
  • 2 to 3 (finely cut) Green Chili
  • 1/2 small bowl Green peas
  • 1/2 small bowl french beans
  • 1 small bowl Carrots
  • 50 gm cut finely Coriander
  • salt as per taste
  • 1/2 Tbsp sugar

Method :


  • Roast the peanuts and peel off their skin. Put them in a bowl.
  • Roast the sooji (semolina) in a dry frying pan till it turns light brown. Take it out in a plate.
  • Put oil/Ghee in a frying pan and heat it.
  • Put rai seeds in the frying pan.Rai seeds will start roasting while making a cracking sound.
  • Add Onions,curry leaves,green chili,turmeric powder and peanuts and roast for another minute.
  • Add french beans,green peas and chopped carrots and roast for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Now put 400 gm water in the frying pan,salt and sugar.
  • Add suji and stir with the stirring spoon. Keep stirring while the mixture boils.
  • The mixture will keep getting thicker. When it starts looking like a halwa, you’ll know that the Upma is ready.
  • Take out the upma in a bowl and garnish with coriander.
